Fragrance lost in distant land
|
"Fragrant Pink" is the name of a perfumed camellia cultivated by Dr. William L. Ackerman, a former specialist of horticulture at the U.S. Department of Agriculture and currently advisor for Seibu Maizuru Farm, famous for its camellias. This small and pink, peony-formed flower can be found blooming in a corner of the "Children's Land" in Yokohama, along with about 600 other species of camellias.
But since the highly delicate scent of "Fragrant Pink" is easily affected by changes in temperature, humidity, soil and sunlight, it seems to be unable to fully emit its original fragrance in the Japanese climate. Its scent is so weak that it smells almost like cured leather. Perhaps the original scent of Fragrant Pink can only be enjoyed in its homeland.
