The exquisite scent that changes as night falls
|
In a September 1985 newspaper column "Vox Populi Vox Dei" the fragrance of the Telosma cordata was discussed. To confirm the content of the article, a short visit was made to the nearby Jindai Botanical Park of Tokyo. Surely enough at 2 p.m., the Telosma cordata emitted a slight scent which resembled a mixture of rose and freesia with a tinge of ginger. However at dusk, the fragrance grew stronger and by 9 p.m., it became a highly exotic and profound fragrance, which can be described as a mixture of strong green and aloe notes. Careful analysis revealed that its main compounds were geraniol found in roses, and ß-ionone found in violets.
Analysis confirmed that the highly diffusive property of ß-ionone was responsible for spreading the aroma of the Telosma cordata.
