The scents of the white camellia, expressing "forever elegant", and the red camellia, the symbol of "humble beauty", are as subtle as their symbolic meanings.
"Kodomo no Kuni" (Children's Land) is a park in Yokohama, Japan which has about 600 species of camellias collected by the flower artist Choka Adachi. When the descendants of Adachi decided to give up this valuable collection, Shiseido, which uses the camellia as its company trademark, offered financial assistance to prevent dissipation of the collection.
The camellia woods can be found as one passes through from the park's entrance to the Central Square heading north. As spring approaches, gorgeous camellias bloom and the sweet, refreshing scents of such species as "Kohshi", "Scent of Dawn", and the "Nioi Fubuki" can be enjoyed. While Hime-sasanqua has a plum-like scent with a fresh green note of hyacinth, other varieties have cool, sweet-smelling scents, making the woods a true fragrant paradise.
