Shiseido has been able to expand the range of its business by utilizing its original technology. A typical case is our chromatography business represented by column loading materials developed by utilization of the chemical modification (treatment) of cosmetic raw materials.
With a technology born in the process of cosmetic development as the seed, an independent enterprise was encouraged to grow and prosper. The range of related businesses surrounding such an enterprise is steadily expanding through promotion of further basic research.

Chromatography technology

Chromatography as a business began with the production of loading materials for the separation column by application of "powder surface treatment technology", an original technology developed by Shiseido. Research and development continued after this auspicious beginning, to achieve the development of "NANOSPACE", a highly sensitive semi-micro-column packed with such a material for liquid chromatography, and "column-packing material" and "preparative chromatography system" for separation of a target material from a complex mixture. This business is expanding in three divisions, "columns business", "instruments business" and "purification businesss".
Shiseido is always listening to what our customers want, and promoting the research and development of instruments and apparatuses designed to meet the demands in medical fields, while improving the efficiency of analytical procedures by combining its products with other analytical innovations such as mass spectrometry (MS) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). These technologies have won high regard, and garnered a number of awards in the field of analytical chemistry.
