Summary of award-winning research

Theme of the award-winning research

Optical rejuvenating Makeup Using An Innovative Shape-controlled Hybrid Powder

Sagging creates shadows which emphasize the unevenness of the skin surface. These shadows are minimized by allowing the light to be reflected upward as with the use of a reflecting plate at photo shoots. This "reflector powder" produces the effect of making the skin look youthful and resilient.
Reflector Powder is a compound of ultra fine particles created by applying the latest ultra fine-particle-creating technology that uses a red-interference pearl scent pigment as the base material and controls the shapes of minute microscopic crystals of barium sulfate using nanotechnology.
By means of the specular reflection of red light similar to reflected light inside the skin to areas where light is cast off from the front facial areas such as cheeks or the forehead, this powder gives a natural and resilient look to the skin. At the same time, small platy pieces of barium sulfate modify light reflection at various angles and enable shadows to become brighter while minimizing their appearance by reflecting the light upwards, similar to a reflecting plate, on the areas that create shadows on the face, such as sagging.
Customers highly value the foundation formulated with "reflector powder", describing themselves as looking more than 10 years younger.

Outline of IFSCC

The IFSCC (International Federation of Societies of Cosmetic Chemists) is the largest worldwide organization in the field of cosmetic science with members in 45 countries.
At the biannual "IFSCC congresses" is held once every two years in even number years. Research presentations generally include nearly 200 entries, with total participants exceeding 1,600. The congresses are the world's most prestigious forums for the presentation of cosmetic-related research. Shiseido has won the top award 8 times in total, to date.
It was decided in 2003 that a single paper would be selected and awarded the top prize at the "IFSCC Conference "held in odd-numbered years. This is the second honor-awarding event.
