In contrast to the quantitative and qualitative research of Shiseido Research Centers, in 1953 the Institute of Beauty Sciences was formed to conduct research on cosmetics from physiological, psychological, and philosophical standpoints. The Institute pursues studies in human science, beauty science, and fashion making unique contributions to the respective fields. Also housed in the same building is Shiseido's Beauty Creation Center, a facility at the forefront of research into modern beauty techniques. It provides advice on hair care and makeup, studies changes in style, and trains future professionals in the beauty field.
