娘から両親へ、感謝の気持ちを伝える結婚式もまた、人生の大切な「贈り物」のひとつです。1950年の復刊から100号を数えるこの号は結婚特集。麗しい花嫁衣裳をまとった女優の岡田茉莉子さんが登場する表紙は、当時としては貴重な箔押しの加工を施しています。つづく中面では、世界各国の花嫁衣装を紹介するかたわらで、伝統的な和装の企画が組まれました。この号が発行されたのち、明仁皇太子（現・今上天皇）のお妃に正田美智子さんが内定、翌年4月には盛大な結婚パレードが開催されました。

Unpretentious
Kimono-clad Bride

The wedding, a time when the daughter expresses her feelings of appreciation to her parents, is one of life’s important gifts. This special feature on weddings is the 100th issue since the magazine began reprinting in 1950. The cover, featuring the actress Mariko Okada beautifully dressed in a wedding kimono, is printed by a foil process which was rare at the time. The pages of the magazine are filled with photos of wedding dresses from around the world as well as traditional Japanese wedding kimonos. At the time this issue came out, Crown Prince Akihito (Current Reigning Emperor of Japan) selected Michiko Shoda as his bride and future crown princess, and a grand wedding parade was held in April of the following year.

As you read through this special feature that suggests starting a ritual of calisthenics and massage therapy 60 days before the wedding, getting work done on your teeth and practicing how to talk and laugh 20 days before the wedding, and getting your nails done and preparing for your honeymoon the day before the wedding, it gradually builds a sense of the actual day of the wedding.
