今回のテーマはファッション。
1937年に創刊した『花椿』は最新のファッション事情を伝えることを大切な役割のひとつとし、ジャン・パトゥと提携したコレクションレポートからはじまり、ヴィジュアルや情報をとおしてファッションを伝え続けてきました。そのなかで、特に大事にしてきたポイントは三つ。「デザイナー」と「ヴィジュアルクリエイション」と「情報としてのファッション」です。今回はそれらのポイントを、印象的なページと併せてご紹介していきます。
When Hanatsubaki’s first issue was released in 1937, its primary role was to relay information on the latest vogues and since then the magazine has continued to convey fashion news through collection reports produced in collaboration with Jean Patou, visuals, and fashion information. In particular, the magazine has paid close attention to the following three elements: “Designers”, “Creation” and “Fashion as Information”. In this issue, we look at these elements in conjunction with exquisitely-presented pages from the magazine.

時代の空気を反映し、常に新しいコレクションを創り出すデザイナーに『花椿』は焦点を当て、さまざまな角度からアプローチしてきました。こちらはヨウジヤマモトの最新コレクション(1997年当時)を撮り下ろしたヴィジュアル企画。コレクションで発表されたルックにヘアやメーキャップなどで『花椿』風の解釈を加え、紹介しています。

Hanatsubaki has continued to spotlight designers, who constantly come out with new collections that reflect the changing times, and have explored these designers and their work from a myriad of angles. This visual column presents the latest collection (as of 1997) of photographs taken by Yohji Yamamoto. Here we introduce the look he carried out in his collection and used hair and makeup to add a Hanatsubaki flair.

アントワープ・ファッション
80年代後半、ドリス・ヴァン・ノッテンやアン・ドゥムルメステールらの活躍によって注目を集めた街、ベルギー・アントワープ。この企画では、彼らを輩出したアントワープ・ロイヤル・アカデミー・オブ・ファイン・アーツ（王立芸術大学）の卒業コレクションを取材し、アントワープでファッションを学ぶことの意義を考察しています。同校を名実ともに世界屈指のファッション教育機関にたらしめた学科長、リンダ・ロッパや、将来注目されるであろう次世代のデザイナーたちのインタヴューも読むことができます。

Antwerp Fashion
In the late 1980s, the city of Antwerp in Belgium became the center of attention due to the activities of designers Dories Van Notten and Ann Demeulemeester. This column reports on the collections of these designers upon their graduation from Antwerp Royal Academy of Fine Arts, and explores the significance of studying fashion in Antwerp. Readers can also enjoy brief interviews with Linda Loppa, the dean of the Antwerp academy who turned it into a world-renowned educational institution in both name and substance, and the next generation of designers who showed significant potential. スーザン・チャンチオロの世界
90年代、トレンドの中心がストリートだった時代に、そのユニークさで注目されたNYのファッションデザイナー、スーザン・チャンチオロの特集です。既成概念にとらわれない彼女のコレクションは、批評性を持った服そのものももちろん、現代美術のインスタレーションのような発表の仕方も含めとてもオリジナルでアーティスティックでした。

The World of Susan Cianciolo
This is a special feature on New York-based fashion designer Susan Cianciolo whose unique fashion garnered attention in the 1990s when street style was the mainstream trend. Her collection of work which doesn’t cede to convention has a sense of artistic style in both the originality of the critical clothing, and the method in which the clothes are presented as if in an installation at a modern art museum. こちらは1991年にパリのガリエラ服飾美術館にて行われた、カステルバジャックとマルタン・マルジェラ、シビラ、ヴィヴィアン・ウエストウッド、ロメオ・ジリ、そしてジャン・ポール・ゴルチエの「ファッションデザイナーたちの創造の世界」展に併せた誌面企画。デザイナーの世界を理解するうえで、本人のことばを知ることは有効です。確固たる審美眼をもったデザイナーのことばは真理をとらえているようで、強く心に響きます。

These pages were created in conjunction with the exhibition entitled “The World Created by Fashion Designers” held at Musée Galliera in Paris in 1991 by Jean-Charles De Castelbajac, Martin Margiela, Sybilla, Vivienne Westwood, Romeo Gigli, and Jean-Paul Gautier. There is value in getting to know your own voice by first gaining an understanding of the world of designers.
