生活のために For Daily Life

美しく生きるために。そのためには日々の美容のケアや運動はもちろんのこと、「美しい食事」も欠かせません。戦後の困窮を抜け出した日本は飽食の時代を経て、今では素材の質を追求し、豊かな食文化を楽しむことができるようになりました。そのような時代背景を取り込みつつも、『花椿』の関心は常に「美しい食文化」にありました。伝統のおせち料理や美肌をつくる食べ物、それにフランスのワインやシャンパンの文化を辿る特集、そして70年代には加速するファストフード化に警鐘を鳴らすような特集も組まれました。今回は数ある「食」の特集の中から、「生活のため」、「健康のため」、「美食のため」という三つのテーマを設けてご紹介します。

Daily skincare and exercise are an essential part of staying beautiful, but culinary beauty is just as important. Japan has progressed from a period of postwar poverty to an era of excessive eating, and has now entered into an era in which people seek quality ingredients and enjoy rich culinary culture. Over the years, Hanatsubaki has continued to cover the current phases of food while always focused on beauty-oriented culinary culture. Our magazine ran special features on traditional New Year dishes, foods for beautiful skin, the French wine and champagne culture, and also one in the 70s that rang warning bells against the rapidly rising trend toward eating fast food. For this issue, we selected from among a countless number of past food-related special features and introduce them under the three themes of: “for daily life, “for good health,” and “for enhancing the gastronomic experience.”

連載「衣食住」

1953年の年間連載「衣食住」。
各界の著名人がそれぞれ生活についての考えを綴りました。メゾソプラノ歌手の佐藤美子が「衣、食、住、は全然別々のようであって、実は全く一つのものだと思います」というとおり、衣食住はすべてが一つとなって一人ひとりのライフスタイルを形成しています。美しい食事を心がけることはおのずとその人の立ち居振る舞いを美しくさせる、そんなことが言えそうです。

“Necessities of Life”

“The Necessities of Life” was a column published serially throughout 1953 featuring writings about daily life by famous people from various sectors. As articulated by mezzo soprano singer Yoshiko Sato that “despite the appearance of clothing, food and dwellings as completely separate entities, they are actually one and the same,” the necessities of life form one entity and shape each of our lifestyles. It can be said that devotion to culinary beauty naturally promotes beauty of manner and behavior.

毎年1月号にはおせち料理を取り上げる企画がありました。今でこそ昔ながらの純和風なおせちが人気ですが、当時は異国風の味付けに新鮮味があったもよう。東京タワーが竣工し、日本の現代文化が花開くころの特集です。

New Year Dishes/
Chinese-style New Year Dishes

Every year in the January issue, the magazine featured a report on New Year dishes. Though traditional Japanese New Year dishes of the olden days are favored today, back then, people appeared to be drawn to the newness of foreign-flavored cuisines. These special features were published at a time that the construction on the Tokyo Tower was completed and modern Japanese culture was beginning to bloom.

連載
「かおりのストーリー」

コーヒーや菜の花、ネギやスイカ、給食など、食べ物をテーマにした散文詩の連載です。「朝といえば、コーヒー。(中略)顔の前でゆれている 濃密な香り。でも、まだ頭のなかは眠っているみたい。」と、コーヒーを前にした朝の情景が浮かぶようです。

“Story of Aroma”

This serialized column featured prose poems on food-related topics such as coffee and rape blossoms, spring onions and watermelons, and school lunches. This particular poem conjures up images of how we feel as we sit in front of our morning coffee: “Coffee is a part of my morning ritual. (Parts omitted) The strong scent dances in front of my face. But my head is still clouded with sleep.”

連載「Coo, Coo, Cooking」

こちらは豊かな日本の食文化を伝える連載「クッ、クッ、クッキング」。お餅やのり巻きなど、普段の生活に欠かせない家庭料理の作り方と、少しのうんちくを紹介しています。

“Coo, Coo, Cooking” was a serially published column that conveyed the richness of the Japanese culinary culture. The column introduced recipes and a little bit of wisdom for rice cakes, rolled sushi and other homemade food items that were an integral part of everyday meals.
